Nothing ever happens in Sherwood. The simplicity of that statement resinates in a good way with me and many others who know Sherwood, Oregon and its charming way.
Tonight while watching “The Good Wife” on CBS one of the characters gave a shout out to our small family friendly town. She said, “I am from Sherwood. It’s outside of Portland. Nothing ever happens in Sherwood.”
There’s some truth to that, it’s pretty quite here in a good way. Something us Sherwoodians take great pride in the quaintness of this bedroom community just 25 minutes outside of Portland, Oregon. A town filled with history, an eclectic bunch of locally owned shops, family restaurants and seasonal farm stores. We adore our charming Old Town district and the fun summer events that fill it. It’s even easy to meander the countryside by way of a scenic drive or cycle route – taking in the beautiful rolling hills of fertile farmland and country roads that lead to the wine country.
You’ll find the Sherwood folks are also happy here. That pride is evident in the friendliness of the people and cleanliness of the town with its groomed parks, streets and neighborhoods throughout community. Not to mention the excellent schools and athletic programs. We even live up to the “Sherwood” name with an annual Robin Hood Festival and a deep green forest backdrop that our town is nestled within.
More recently there’s been a lot happening in Sherwood with grand openings of several businesses. You’ll now find Dutch Bros. Coffee, Kohl’s Department Store, Unleashed by Petco, Pizza Hut and Da Mimmo’s Italian Restaurant in Sherwood. There’s also a lot of new development happening around the city. Major improvements are being made to the streets of Old Town, to include wider sidewalks in addition to more housing and shops in the near future.
We’re seeing a huge uptick in Sherwood home sales too. Named by Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to Live in the Nation, many have Sherwood on the top of their list. Thankfully, Renaissance is under construction on a new subdivision coming soon. “Renaissance at Rychlick Farms” will offer 26 homesites on generously sized lots with European inspired home designs and price points around the $500,000 range. Located off Edy Road, this neighborhood is walking distance to Sherwood’s newest schools, Edy Ridge Elementary and Laurel Ridge Middle School. And it’s no surprise this new Sherwood neighborhood will offer greenspace lots reflecting that “Sherwood” feel.

Shared by the home seller…
We were drawn to this property for 2 reasons: 1. acreage for horses and 2. the view. It was perfect for what we needed then.
We love Sherwood because of the sense of community that we feel. It is evident from the crowds at the high school football games to standing in line at the grocery store chatting with the person next to you.
We love our neighborhood because of the spaciousness of the properties up here and the friendliness of our neighbors. There is a Parrett Mountain annual picnic each summer that gives us an opportunity to catch up with the neighbors with more than just a passing wave.
In Sherwood we love to eat at Red Robin, McMenamins, House of Good Fortune and Sawatdee Thai. Because it is an easy trip into Wilsonville from our house, we enjoy Oswego Grill, the Ram, and Sonic. Symposium Coffee is of of our favorite places to meet friends for coffee. If we are on the run, driving through Dutch Bros is perfect!
Sherwood offers many places to shop. Kohl’s department store, Target, Nature’s Pet (pet food and supplies), Home Depot are great for most supplies. I also love SweetStory Bakery, Mud Puddles (toys and books), and Life’s a Scrapbook. All three of these are locally owed.

Hot Spots to Enjoy in Sherwood, Oregon
The Portland area is wonderful because it It has everything a big city can offer with out feeling like it is a big city. We enjoy sporting events, plays, concerts, shopping and going out to eat. This can all be done with a 30-40 minute drive into the city from our house.

So Many Attractions In and Around Portland, Oregon
Our kids have done very well in the Sherwood Schools District. From elementary, to middle, to high school, they have thrived. There are many youth sports organizations they have participated in which also transitioned them into high school sports. Some of our favorite community events include Cruisin’ Sherwood (June) and The Robin Hood Festival (July). The schools also offer annual events that the Sherwood community supports…carnivals, auctions, concerts, etc.
There is a great variety of recreation available near our home. Golfing, boating, hiking, visiting wine country, playing tennis are all things we enjoy doing. Also there is a very nice YMCA in Sherwood for working out.

Great Sherwood Schools, Events, Activities and Attractions
Our utility costs are pretty reasonable for a family of our size and “personality”. Electric – PGE $257.76 ave. Gas – Northwest Natural $84.33 ave. Trash – Republic Serves (formerly Allied Waste) $56 every two months includes recycling.
We have been doing remodeling ever since we bought the property. We are the 3rd owner of the house which was built in the late 60′s. The first thing we did was remodel the master bath (2003). Then we moved on to the laundry room, powder room, office, half of the kitchen and pantry (approx 2004). Next we installed a gas furnace and air conditioning (2004). In 2006 we remodeled the downstairs bathroom. In 2008 we remodeled the rest of the kitchen and the rest of the family room downstairs creating a wet bar and poker room. We also replaced all the carpet in the house. Other things we’ve done include building a deck, adding a hot tub (2010), replacing the railing (2011), adding cedar columns in the front of the house and replacing the boards under the eves with cedar (2012). We installed a new well pump and pump house in 2011.
