Oregon Symphony Storytimes Comes to Sherwood

Get ready for some fun, interactive storytimes as the Oregon Symphony returns to the Sherwood Public Library in February, 2012.

Oregon Symphony Storytimes are provided through a generous grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County.  Each storytime features one of the four families of musical instruments: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Children and their parents experience a live musical collaboration between the library reader and an Oregon Symphony musician. Musicians play short selections, talk a little about their instrument and after the stories are read aloud, audience members can try out each instrument during an “Instrument Petting Zoo.”

Space at these storytimes is limited and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please get to the Sherwood Library early where tickets will be handed out at the front desk starting at 12:30.

Help for Helmets!

Sherwood Youth Football / SYFA is proud to be a no-pay-to-play program.  However, in order to meet expenses they require and depend on active participation in fundraisers.

Having three boys of our own who have participated in and are actively playing various Sherwood sports such as baseball, basketball, football and track, we’re very aware of the time and expenses that go with playing.  The fact that Sherwood Youth Football is a no-pay-to-play organization is a big deal.

But this year, it could be make it or break it for them.

With efforts in place to find donations, they are in need of approximately 20 thousand dollars for equipment purchases, including the need to replace 180 helmets that have reached the end of their 10 year cycle.

We read that they are asking everyone to please help make Sherwood Youth Football a first on everyone’s donation/help list.  A lot of time and sacrifice has been made in the past to keep the no pay to play status.  Please help do what you can to insure its longevity.  This has continued to be a valued opportunity for the kids participating within this organization – your help can carry on that tradition.

Sherwood’s Small Town Big Talent Show

Voices for the Performing Arts is rounding up contestants for Sherwood’s second annual Small Town Big Talent Show.

Deadline for the competition is February 1st, 2012.  is right around the corner.  Those who submit a family friendly Youtube video, no longer than four minutes and make the final selection will be eligible to compete in front of a live audience and panel of judges the day of the event on February 25th, 2012.

Talent Show contestants will be competing for cash prizes awarded to winners as determined by audience text votes and judging scores.  Prior contestants and winners are also welcome to enter.  It’s going to be a lot of fun to see what kind of great talent we have here in Sherwood!

This year the Voices for the Performing Arts have mentioned enhancements to this years show.  The Small Town Big Talent show will run ONE NIGHT ONLY so make sure to bring your friends, family and your cell phone – you’ll want to be able to text in your votes!
